PLDO Partner Brian J. Lamoureux to Address The Government vs. Big Tech: Who Will (and Should) Win? at the Compass IT Annual Cybersecurity Symposium
Rhode Island — September 18, 2019 — Pannone Lopes Devereaux & O’Gara LLC (PLDO) Partner Brian J. Lamoureux, a prominent business and employment lawyer and leading voice on social and digital media law, will present “The Government vs. Big Tech: Who Will (and Should) Win?” at the Compass IT Compliance 3rd Annual Cybersecurity Symposium on Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2019 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Twin River Casino in Lincoln, RI. The symposium will bring together cybersecurity experts and industry leaders to explore the latest cyber threats organizations face and offer actionable steps to mitigate the overall risk of a breach or attack.
Attorney Lamoureux’s remarks will address whether government should aim to break up Big Tech companies such as Facebook and Google. He will discuss whether the solution to perceived problems around privacy and data usage is better solved by government regulation or market forces. His presentation is scheduled from 1:15 p.m. to 1:55 p.m. For more information on the symposium and to register, visit COMPASSIT2019.
“Congress has Big Tech in its sights. Big Tech is facing a serious and critical threat to its business model and future in the form of increased government regulation and oversight,” said Attorney Lamoureux. “With the persistent flood of information about data breaches and questions concerning the control and misuse of our data, users need to ask whether government control and oversight is the answer. These are the major, consequential questions we face today. Whatever solutions result from this national conversation will impact generations to come. My presentation will raise these important issues and I’m looking forward to a robust discussion with symposium attendees.”
