Pannone Lopes Devereaux & O’Gara Announces New Attorney Hires

Pannone Lopes Devereaux & O’Gara LLC (PLDO) announces the appointments of two new associates, Joshua J. Butera and Meagan L. Thomson. Attorney Butera joins the business and municipal law teams and Attorney Thomson joins the firm’s team of litigators. Attorney Butera concentrates his practice in the areas of corporate compliance, administrative and regulatory law, policy and contract law and other general private and public sector issues. Attorney Thomson’s practice focuses on complex litigation, including trusts and probate administration disputes.

Prior to joining PLDO, Attorney Butera was Special Counsel in the Office of Governor Gina Raimondo, where he conducted legal research and analysis on a wide range of legislative issues and public policies. He also advised senior staff on legal matters and policies related to the Rhode Island Department of Transportation, the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority and the Rhode Island Airport Corporation. His legal career also includes working in the litigation department of an international law firm representing clients in numerous areas of the law including contract law, the Fair Housing Act and the False Claims Act.

Attorney Butera earned his J.D. from Boston University School of Law, cum laude, and was the Managing Editor of the Boston University Law Review. He is a Melville M. Bigelow Scholarship awardee and a recipient of the G. Joseph Tauro Distinguished Scholar. While in law school, he served as a judicial intern for the Honorable John J. McConnell, Jr. of the United States District Court for the District of Rhode Island and in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Massachusetts. He graduated from Brown University with a B.A. in Political Science. Attorney Butera is admitted to practice law in Rhode Island, Massachusetts and before the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts.

As a litigator, Attorney Thomson has handled complex liability defense matters for multi-national corporations and insurers around New England and nationally. Prior to joining the firm, she served as in-house counsel for a diversified global insurer in the area of global ethics and compliance, where she advised business groups on cybersecurity and data privacy issues, vendor compliance, contract matters and employee investigations. She earned her J.D. from the University of Connecticut School of Law and her B.A. in Anthropology with a focus on Archaeology, summa cum laude, from the University of Connecticut. During law school, she served as the Membership Editor of the Connecticut Public Interest Law Journal, as a legal intern in the Rhode Island Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Unit, and as a summer associate in the legal department of a Fortune 5 company. Attorney Thomson is admitted to practice law in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island and is a member of the Rhode Island and Connecticut Bar Associations.
