PLDO Employment Lawyers and Litigators to be Featured Speakers at the 2018 Rhode Island Workers’ Compensation Educational Conference

Pannone Lopes Devereaux & O’Gara LLC (PLDO) employment lawyers and litigators will be featured speakers at the 2018 Rhode Island Workers’ Compensation Educational Conference on November 1-2, 2018. PLDO Principal William E. O’Gara and Partner Matthew C. Reeber will present the topic “Sexual Harassment: Workers’ Compensation Claims and Alternative Causes of Action” on Thursday, November 1 from 9:00 a.m. to 9:50 a.m. Partner Brian J. Lamoureux, a national voice on social and digital law issues, will lead a discussion on “Using Social and Digital Media Evidence in a Workers’ Compensation Case” on Friday, November 2 from 9:00 a.m. to 9:50 a.m. The two-day event will be held at the Providence Biltmore Hotel in Downtown Providence and is sponsored by the Rhode Island Workers’ Compensation Court and the International Workers’ Compensation Foundation. Attorney O’Gara leads the firm’s Employment Law, Litigation and Mediation teams. With over 25 years of experience, he has handled a wide range of cases including employment discrimination, wage and hour claims, and sexual harassment claims. He assists clients in matters ranging from contract negotiations to arbitration and has successfully mediated a wide array of disputes both at the pre-litigation stage and before trial. In addition, Attorney O’Gara conducts workplace investigations and provides training for managers and supervisors on employment-related issues. On a daily basis, he works with clients on employment issues that arise without warning and that employers confront. Among the industries he represents include health care, education, social service providers, construction, warehousing and distribution, technology and others. Attorney O’Gara earned his J.D. from Northeastern University and is admitted to practice in Massachusetts and Rhode Island, representing clients before administrative agencies and state and federal courts.

Attorney Reeber is a member of the firm’s Employment Law and Litigation teams, and is a frequent speaker on employment law issues and advisor to employers concerning workplace legal matters. He has handled numerous cases arising under state and federal anti-discrimination and anti-retaliation statutes, wage and hour statutes, whistleblower statutes, family and medical leave statutes, unemployment compensation statutes and claims for wrongful termination. As part of his practice, he frequently appears before all Rhode Island state and federal courts, as well as administrative and regulatory agencies on behalf of his clients. For the past eight years, he has been named a Rhode Island Super Lawyers Rising Star by Thomson Reuters, a distinction that recognizes the top 2.5 percent of New England lawyers under the age of forty or those in practice for ten years or less. Attorney Reeber earned his J.D. from Tulane University School of Law and his undergraduate degree in American Studies and History, cum laude, from Colby College. He is admitted to practice law in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York and Rhode Island.

Attorney Lamoureux is a member of PLDO’s Employment, Litigation, Cyber Law, and Corporate & Business teams. His extensive practice areas include complex commercial litigation, employment law, construction law, social media law, and creditors’ rights. In addition to being an accomplished business litigator, he is a frequent guest speaker, published author and broadcast commentator on social and digital media legal issues in the news, having made appearances on WPRI-TV, WJAR-TV, WPRO-AM and NECN-TV. He also created and teaches an MBA-level course called “Digital and Social Media in the Business Environment” at his alma mater, Providence College, where he is also a Practitioner Faculty member. In 2011, he was honored for his achievements by Providence Business News with a 40 Under Forty award. Attorney Lamoureux holds a Master of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of Rhode Island and earned his J.D., magna cum laude, from the Syracuse University College of Law. At the same time, he received a Master of Public Administration from the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs. He is qualified to serve as a receiver in Rhode Island Superior Court.
