Biography/Practice Areas
Alison A. Tate is an Associate with Pannone Lopes Devereaux & O’Gara LLC and a member of the firm’s Alternative Dispute Resolution and Special Masterships Teams. She focuses her practice working with the firm’s Special Mastership in Prison Monitoring Team for the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of California, responsible for monitoring prison reform compliance and progress in the implementation of mandatory mental health screening, diagnosis and treatment of prisoners throughout the California prison system.
Attorney Tate has a deep and diverse background in education, which enables her to bring unique and multiple perspectives from the foundation of teaching and learning to the legal services she provides clients. She spent the majority of her career instructing high school students about U.S. Government, U.S. and World History, and Politics. In addition, she served as a Certified Student-Centered Teaching Mentor and participated in the Harvard Think Tank on Global Education and Highlander Institute Deep Learning Cohort. She was also Co-Chair of the Culturally Relevant Curriculum Committee for Barrington, RI Public Schools, where she advocated for, and implemented a more inclusive curriculum and diverse activities district wide. Attorney Tate’s commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) earned her the Rhode Island Department of Education’s “RIDE DEI Recognition” for excellence in Distance Learning. In addition, she was named a US Presidential Scholars Distinguished Teacher in 2022 by the US Department of Education.
Prior to her esteemed career in education, Attorney Tate was a Rhode Island Public Defender, where she represented over 1000 clients in all stages of civil and criminal proceedings, resulting from charges of child abuse and neglect, to ensure all litigant’s civil liberties were equitably afforded.
Attorney Tate earned her J.D. from Western New England College, School of Law, a Bachelor of Arts degree from Mt. Holyoke College and holds a teaching certificate from Providence College. She is admitted to practice in Rhode Island and the United States District Court.
