Craven was a featured presenter at the National Business Institute’s (NBI) online Continuing Legal Education (CLE) seminar, “Rhode Island Probate Process from Start to Finish,” on June 6, 2024.
Attorney Craven presented the first two topics of the full-day online seminar. His first one-hour presentation, “Initial Filing in Probate Court and Estate Timeline,” educated attendees about the small estate administration and the probate court procedure and timetable; formal vs. informal probate administration; opening the estate, including the petition and notice of hearing for probate and administration, required notices and sample forms; the role and requirements of personal representatives; when ancillary administration is necessary; and how to handle claims against the estate.
In his second one-hour presentation, “Probate Disputes and Litigation,” Attorney Craven discussed beneficiary and fiduciary liability; interpreting testamentary intent with burdens of proof, presumptions, and evidence rules; revoked, multiple, and contested wills; how to avoid common will construction problems; and how to handle objections to accounts and petitions.
